Unless you are work in the construction industry, you likely are not familiar with the ultimate green lumber. For the environmentalist, this is the perfect product, and it can be found on many decks, and lots of deck furniture. The same product has been given the following names: plastic lumber, eco-lumber, envirowood, permo-wood, and poly-wood. You don’t always find that a material is good for the environment and also economical, but this new material is just that and has had a huge impact on the patio furniture market.

The end product seems like a piece of lumber, but the impressive thing is that there is no wood in it, merely milk jugs and other recycled plastic containers. Wherever you are accustomed to finding lumber, especially outside, you now see this material: in playground equipment, benches and tables in public spots, and obviously, decks and patio furniture. Plastic is being recycled on an increasing scale, and a product application like poly-wood is a good way to utilize it. From merely 234 million pounds a decade ago, the amount of plastic containers being recycled has increased to 1.5 billion pounds.

In order to stave off being attacked by insects, normal lumber has to be treated with a lot of chemicals. The surface requires sanding and re-coating frequently, in order to keep wood exposed to weather looking good and to stop it from decomposing over time. As it does not contain any damaging chemicals, ploy-wood will not contaminate the soil. Washing it down with a hose from time to time is the only care that’s required. Poly-wood can be successfully utilized in any climate, from salty, windy coastlands to cold winter areas through to those places with a tropical climate.
